The mobile form nobody completes in the rain
If a completion form takes longer than packing the tools, it will be filled in later — or not at all. Ride-alongs make that obvious in a single morning.
Conference-room testing of a technician app happens at a table, with Wi-Fi, with a charged device, and with a trainer who already knows which fields are mandatory. A job in a condominium loading bay at 16:40, with rain on the screen and a security guard waiting for the visitor pass, is a different product.
We time the form against the work. If closing the ticket takes longer than packing the bag, the form will be completed in the van, or at the yard, or never. Photos fail when the app insists on a live upload before the next field unlocks. Signatures fail when the customer is a security desk that will not touch a personal phone.
Offline mode is the other quiet failure. Many applications claim it. Fewer survive a basement plant room, a lift, and a car park in sequence, then reconcile without duplicating the job. We test that path on the device the crew carries, not on a demonstration handset with a fresh install.
The fix is almost always subtraction: fewer mandatory fields, photos that queue, a completion code list the crew helped write. Adding a new “voice of the technician” portal on top of a form they already skip does not help.
